Can't Grasp The Promises

Recently I was playing "ball" with my eight month old son. I would roll the ball to him and let him "catch" it. At one point while he was on his stomach he reached out and tried to grasp the ball but he couldn't. Because of the way he was reaching for it, he actually ended up pushing the ball away from him. As I was watching this the Holy Spirit spoke to me: "Many of my people lack an understanding of My Word and My ways , so that when they reach out for My promises they actually end up pushing them away." The Lord also gave me understanding that there are generally two reasons why His people are not able to lay hold of His promises to them. Either lack of understanding and/or they are more concerned about the things of this world.
We need to remember 2 Corinthians 1:20 "For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us." So if we aren't receiving the promises, we should go before the Lord to ask why. Read 2 Samuel 21:1-14 for an example.
James 1:5 "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."
James 4:8 "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands you sinners; and purify your hearts you double-minded."
Isaiah 55:8-9 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways" says the Lord. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts."
